Business Name: Canettevallei Lavender
Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/canettevallei
I am a lavender farmer since 2005, doing agri-processing. We produce premium quality lavender products eg lavender essential oil, lavender sachets, lavender honey, culinary lavender and handcrafted soap. I have a small retail outlet on the farm, but we also supply health shops, gift shops and pharmacies around the Western Cape. We post orders away country wide and have had custom made orders exported to Hong Kong, the Netherlands and Singapore to private clients. I currently employ three single moms from the local farming community. Business was self funded with very limited savings, and it is still growing steadily. There is still lots of room for expansion and many plans in the pipeline but funds are lacking, limiting the growth of the business. How will you use the R100k prize in your business?
The money will be used to train and employ more local unemployed women and to expand my business. Training these women to make soap will uplift them and their families and maybe, to also start their own little soap business. Women in the farming communities are the most vulnerable and don’t believe in themselves and their own potential.
Furthermore I will be able to obtain the correct equipment to make the type of soap I am dreaming about and to better equip and expand my small factory.
